Opera Las Vegas has been approved for a $25,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support its acclaimed ongoing Living Composers and Librettists Initiative.
OLV’s project is among awards for projects across America totaling more than $103 million that were selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2023 funding. Organizations in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions will carry out arts projects in three NEA funding categories: Grants for Arts Projects, Our Town, and State and Regional Partnerships.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide range of projects, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit from arts, culture, and design.”
OLV General Director Jim Sohre noted: “We are thrilled, grateful, and humbled by this affirmation of our commitment to presenting new productions of recent worthy works by contemporary librettists and composers, and we hope we can help ensure their successful place in the operatic performing canon.”
In the 2023-2024 season, this project will present the World Premiere of the comic opera, Behold the Man by composer Paul Fowler and librettist Andrew Flack, as well as selections from new works at a Mariachi Latin Fiesta.
